Authentic and extraordinary, splash out in the the 30 meter pool, savour world-class wine or simply meander through La Villa Retreat's extensive gardens to be inspired by the surrounding mountains of the renowned Franschhoek valley. Centrally located, La Villa Retreat is a few minute's drive to the Franschhoek town centre – and is also located right next to Farm Sanctuary SA. The non-profit organisation is home to rescued farmed animals which includes Pigcasso - the world-famous painting pig. The Wonki Donkey Deli is also located on the sanctuary grounds where you can enjoy healthy, wholesome organic meals.

Introducing Pigcasso - the fat, famous and fabulous pig that's painting a better picture is our neighbour and you are invited to meet her while staying at La Villa! Once destined to be food, Pigcasso now creates dynamic abstract art that has sold around the world. With Joanne Lefson by her side, Pigcasso is raising awareness about the connection between our food, animals, and climate change.

Farm Sanctuary SA, located adjacent to La Villa, is a registered NPO dedicated inspiring a kinder, more sustainable world. Established by Joanne Lefson in 2016, the sanctuary rescues and rehabilitates farmed with the aim of inspiring an awakened connection between these animals and visitors to the farm. The sanctuary is also home to Pigcasso, the fat, famous and fabulous painting pig who has sold artworks all over the world. Besides meeting these rescued animals and admiring Pigcasso’s Masterpieces, the sanctuary also offers boutique accommodation, wine tastings and the plant-based Wonki Donkey Deli.

La Villa Retreat is a private Franschhoek winelands estate but Farm Sanctuary SA, Wonki Donkey Deli and Pigcasso wine-tasting are open daily to the general public 9am - 4pm. Admission is free and no bookings are required. Kindly note that Joanne Lefson and Pigcasso do not do public painting demonstrations.
